KNOCK DOWN DOORS
Diamond manufactures the largest and most complete line of knock down door systems in the industry. Knock down doors are typically supplied in stocking programs and have many varieties and choices to make a product fit the customer’s unique specifications and provide a best fit for their building and wall applications.
Door Choices
Doors are made from 20 gauge galvanized (A40) steel, with 18 gauge as an option. Doors are made reversible, with either a straight edge or beveled edge. Hinge reinforcements are 7 or 10 gauge. The skin itself can be textured or smooth. The standard core is polystyrene insulated with polyurethane an option when higher R values are required. Lock reinforcements for every lock type are available and included. An optional closer reinforcement is available.
Frame Choices
Frames are 16 gauge galvanized (A40) with a butted jamb to head connection for reversibility. Hinge reinforcements are 7 or 10 gauge. Many frame profiles are available, with the “kerf ” type frame becoming the industry norm due to the ease of weatherseal application. “Open back” frames are generally used when no framed opening will be supplied. In this case, the frame is commonly designed to match the girt depth. A frame with 1/2″ returns will be used in conjunction with a framed opening or other traditional wall applications (various anchors are available for each wall application).
Hardware Choices
Diamond provides several hardware lines depending upon the customer requirements. Each line is complete with many different types of locks and price points. The “best value” is Diamond’s own line of Southern Hardware. The best feature of this line may be the stainless steel finish on various grades of levers and knobs, or it may be the extended warranties, or it may be just the number of choices available.
Packaging
All knock down doors are poly-bagged, and then wrapped in corrugated sleeves for ultimate protection. Frames and miscellaneous hardware components are packaged in a corrugated box. Larger hardware items, such as panic devices, and closers are supplied in their factory boxes.
All items are palletized in appropriate quantities for the stock or project order. Export orders are packaged in registered export wood crates.
Paint
Doors have a baked-on finish coat of paint. The mills of paint averages 1.2 mills dry. Standard colors are white, bronze, or gray, but special colors are available for stocking programs or large products.
PRE-ASSEMBLED DOORS
Diamond produces the largest selection of preassembled doors in the industry. Preassembled doors differ from knock down doors because they are completely factory assembled including all hardware, lite kits, and a subframe system (c-channel/framed opening). The installation time for preassembled doors averages 35 minutes so compared to knock down doors, this might mean 4 to 8 hours of immediate labor savings. Preassembled doors are also beneficial because all hardware is guaranteed to be installed correctly and in good working order. Comparing the total preassembled and knock down costs over time, including the cost of call backs and lost parts, a preassembled door may be some builders best option.
